The Tokyo Olympian is yet to achieve the qualification standards for Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. India’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand won the gold medal in the women’s 100m race at the ongoing Khelo India University Games 2021 in Bengaluru on Saturday. Dutee Chand, an Asian Games silver medallist, clocked 11.68 seconds, which was far from her personal best and national record of 11.17 seconds she achieved at the Indian Grand Prix IV at Patiala last year. At the last edition of KIUG, Dutee Chand had won the 100m race in 11.49 seconds to set a national university record. Sartaj Singh Tiwana, on Friday, stunned the crowd at the SAI Shooting Range in Bengaluru when he defeated Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar in the final of the 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Khelo India University Games 2021, to claim the gold medal. Five indigenous games - Gatka, Thang-Ta, Kalaripayattu, Malkhamb and Yogasan - have been added in the latest edition to boost sports at the grassroots. After being postponed multiple times due to COVID-19 in the past year-and-a-half, the fourth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) will be held from June 4 to 13. The Khelo India Youth Games 2021 will be held in five cities - Panchkula, Ambala, Chandigarh, Shahabad and Delhi. Around 5,100 athletes from across the country are expected to participate in 25 sporting disciplines. Five indigenous games -- gatka, thang-ta, kalaripayattu, mallakhamb and yogasana -- have been added in the latest edition to promote these sports at the grassroots.
