Two-time Asian Games medallist and Olympian Lilima Minz calls time on her hockey career

The midfielder played in 156 matches for India, scoring 12 goals, since her debut in 2011. Indian women’s hockey team midfielder Lilima Minz has announced her retirement, ending her decade-long stint in the sport. The 27-year-old Minz, who hails from Odisha, was a part of the team that represented India at the Rio 2016 Olympics after a gap of 36 years. The midfielder was also a part of the Indian team which booked a place in the Tokyo Olympics through the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers 2019 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Lilima Minz’s achievements also include winning a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea and a silver at the 2018 edition in Jakarta, Indonesia. Goalkeeper Savita Punia will captain an 18-member Indian squad at the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2022 in Muscat, Oman from January 21-28. Indian women are the defending champions at the continental event. The Indian women’s hockey team, named by Hockey India on Wednesday, features 16 players who were part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where the Indian eves finished fourth. Regular skipper Rani Rampal will miss out as she is undergoing rehabilitation for a hamstring injury in Bengaluru. Defender Deep Grace Ekka will be the vice-captain. Gurjit Kaur and Vandana Katariya, who were India’s top goalscorers at Tokyo 2020, are also in the squad. With an aim to build on their historic Tokyo Olympics 2020 campaign, Hockey India on Monday announced the appointment of new Women's Team Analytical Coach and Scientific Advisors for both Senior Men and Women's Hockey teams. South Africa's Patrick Tshutshani will take over the duties of Analytical Coach for the Indian Women's Hockey Team. Tshutshani in his previous roles was the Director/ Head Coach of Field Hockey Canada Junior Women's Team. He had coached the Field Hockey Canada Junior Women's Hockey Team that clinched the 2021 Women's Pan America Junior Championship title. He was also the Assistant Coach of Field Hockey Canada Women's National Team.
