The latest edition of the World Athletics Podcast brings together three legends of the javelin, with Neeraj Chopra and Julius Yego joined by host Steve Backley. Since 2015, there have been men’s javelin winners from four different continents at the five global senior championships, demonstrating the diversity in the event. Two of those champions – India’s Olympic champion Chopra and Kenya’s world gold medallist Yego – recently came together virtually with Great Britain’s three-time Olympic and two-time world medallist Backley to talk everything about the discipline. With his victory in Tokyo last year, Chopra became India’s first ever Olympic champion in athletics. Although he had previously made history for his nation when breaking the world U20 record to win India’s first gold meda...

The gold-coloured postbox has been placed by the Indian post office at Khandra in Panipat, Haryana – Neeraj Chopra’s hometown. The Indian post office - the country’s public postal service - has installed a gold-painted postbox in Neeraj Chopra's hometown in Haryana to mark the javelin thrower's gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics. A postbox is usually a red-coloured, barrel-shaped container placed in common public locations where people can drop their personal letters - envelopes or postcards - to be collected and delivered by the government post and telegraph office. At Tokyo 2020, Neeraj Chopra created history as he won the gold medal in men's javelin throw with an attempt measuring 87.58m. He is the first Indian track and field athlete to win an Olympic medal. Fast 10km times expected in Valencia

Athletics
Two years ago at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, Kenya’s Rhonex Kipruto set the current men’s world record with his impressive 26:24 performance. This year, organisers hoped to match that feat in the women’s event at the World Athletics Label Road Race by bringing together some of the most outstanding distance athletes, including Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw and Kenya’s Norah Jeruto. Unfortunately Yehualaw, the main candidate to improve the 29:38 mark achieved by Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne in Geneva last October, will be unable to compete in Valencia on Sunday (9) after testing positive for Covid-19 just before travelling on Thursday. Gezahegne's performance is awaiting ratification as the women's world 10km record set in a mixed race, with the current ratified mark the 29:43 run by Joycili...

At Tokyo 2020, Neeraj Chopra clinched India's first-ever athletics medal, that too gold, at the Olympics, thereby shifting the country's focus on track and field events in a big way. Neeraj Chopra's gold-winning throw of 87.58m, however, wasn't his personal best or the national record for Indian javelin. Let us look at India's national athletics records across major track and field events. 100m Amiya Kumar Mallick holds the 100m record in India, with a timing of 10.26 which he managed at the National Federation Cup in 2016. In the women's category, Dutee Chand holds the 100m national record with a timing of 11.17 seconds, which she achieved at the Indian Grand Prix IV at Patiala in 2021. 200m Muhammed Anas Yahiya set the 200m national record after he clocked a time of 20.63 at a mee...
