Hockey India congratulates Indian Women and Men’s Hockey Teams on receiving Special Recognition Award from BBC India

New Delhi, 28 March 2022: Hockey India on Monday congratulated the Indian Men and Women’s Hockey Teams on receiving the Special Recognition Award from BBC India for their Tokyo Olympics triumph. The awards ceremony in New Delhi today was graced by Shri Naveen Patnaik, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha State Government. Also present at the event was Indian Olympic Association President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra among other dignitaries and top athletes of the country.

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team Captain Savita and Vice Captain Deep Grace Ekka received the award on behalf of the team. They were awarded the Special Recognition Award for their historic fourth place finish at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. BBC India also gave away the Special Recognition Award for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team for their Bronze Medal feat which ended the 41-year medal drought at the Olympic Games, Indian stars Harmanpreet Singh and Amit Rohidas received the award on behalf of the team.

Congratulating both the teams, Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningombam said: “It is indeed a matter of great pride that both the Indian Men’s Hockey Team and the Women’s Team have been presented with the Special Recognition Award by BBC India for their performances at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. I am sure all the awards and adulation for both teams will encourage them to achieve greater results at the International stage.”
