INDIA DOMINATES SAAF CHAMPIONSHIPS

The biggest sporting event in the history of Nagaland, The South Asian Cross Country Championships and the 56th National Cross Country Championships was held on 26th March 2022 at IG Stadium, Kohima.

Five South Asian countries that took part were Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. 34 states, UTs and boards participated in the competition.

SAAF Cross Country race included; Men (10km), Women (10km), Under 20- boys (8km) and Under 20-girls (6km). While the categories for National Cross-country races are: Men (10km), under 20- boys (8km), under 16- boys (6km) and Women (10km), Under 20-girls (6km), under 18 girls (4km) and under 16 girls (2km).

The SACCC and 56th NCCC was organised by Nagaland Athletics Association under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India.

In the North East States category, the following athletes from Nagaland secured top 3 positions in various events- Tsuchoi T came first in 10 km women category, Kughaho got the third position in 8 kms boys under-20, in the 6 km girls Under-20 event Songmo P and Vesatseilu Khesoh secured first and second position respectively, in the 6 km Boys-U18 Thejangulie Sote and Keneingutuo Rame got the second and third position respectively, in 4 km Girls-U18 event Nirmala won the second position, Jemie Y got the third position in the 2 km Girls-U16 event.
