NorthEast United FC have nothing to lose, will be a dangerous opponent: Jamshedpur FC’s Peter Hartley

Jamshedpur FC defender and skipper Peter Hartley believes that his side are in a joyous position in the table but stated that the mission of qualifying for the semi-finals is not yet complete.

The 33-year-old Englishman has been at the forefront of the Jamshedpur FC backline, being the guiding force of the team in each of the outings till now, and his stats are a clear example of that. Hartley has made 54 clearances, 35 tackles, 16 interceptions, and nine blocks in 15 matches.

Ahead of their game against NorthEast United FC, Hartley addressed the media during the official pre-match press conference.

Here are the excerpts from the player’s press conference:

4 matches remaining – How will the club approach the remaining crucial games?

Same way as we approached the first game of the season. Every game we go into, we win, and nothing’s changed. We put ourselves in a fantastic position right now but the job’s not done yet, so we have to keep going into every game with the same mentality of earning the right to play and win because nothing is given for free, so, yes, that’s what we aim to do.

What are your thoughts on facing NorthEast United FC?

They are a very dangerous team, they’ve got an incredibly good striker in Deshorn Brown. They’ll be like a wounded animal given the season that they had, and there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal, so you know, NorthEast are going to be an extremely difficult opponent, so we have to be at our maximum to grab the three points.

What is your take on Greg Stewart becoming an instant fan favourite?

Undoubtedly the best player in the league by far, I’ve said it before as well. I have played against him a lot when he was part of the Rangers [Scottish tier one club]. I have always known his potential, have always known how good he was going to be when he came here. I have said it before everyone knew and he has proved everyone right. So, he’s by far the best player in the league you know, and show me someone who says he isn’t and I can show you that it’s a lie because stats don’t lie.

Greg’s assists, the way he controls the game with his tempo, the way he dictated it, he can speed the game up and slow the game down, he has an intelligent game sense and he’s a team player. He works so hard for the team every game. Usually when you get a player like Greg, you sort of have to sacrifice the defensive work to get what he gives you going forward. He’s a different animal because he does both and he 100% puts the team first, which is amazing to be honest.
